Pencil Grip Help

If your Kindergarten class is anything like mine, then you're bound to have a few students who struggle with finding the right grip for the pencil. As you work to get them to hold it properly, you find some hold it too tight, others too loosely. Others still will point the eraser in the wrong direction. A few years back someone shared this with me. I haven't needed it for a while, but keep a dozen or so on hand...just in case. Maybe you've seen these before....maybe you have some tucked away and need a little reminder to pull them out:

This is a great idea! Do you have an example of how to make the bracelet? I couldn't see how it was constructed from the video.

I've done something similar using two rubber bands - hook the bands together, one goes over the wrist and the other wraps around the pencil!

I will get the directions posted ASAP. Thanks for your interest. ;-)

My son has DCD and therefore has grip issues. This would be great. Can you share how to make one?

Cindy,

These look fantastic. I teach special education kinders and most of them have very weak fine motor skills and I use the tripod grips from Lakeshore but the ones that you are demonstrate would be so much better for my students. Would love the directions! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!

You need a pot holder string (like you would weave and make your own pot holder [craft section]), a plastic cable tie [hardware/automotive section], cord from beading that is sorta silky (can't remember what it is called), medium bead (mine is a dolphin) that has the same size hole as a pony bead (craft section).

Put the pot holder string around a pencil and cable tie so that the pencil can be slid in and out as necessary. The larger side is where the child's wrist goes. The silky cord needs to be about 5 in. in length. fold in half and put the fold through the large hole in the pot holder string. Loop back through itself so that it is knotted. String the loose ends of the silky cord through the bead and knot. You may have to adjust depending on the size of the child's hand.

I know these are rough directions, but I hope it helps. This is how the one that I purchase is made.
